Italy has a special place in our hearts because of family heritage, my family being from the Naples region in southern Italy I was raised to have a deep love for all that is Italian, especially food. LaRosa Sementi is a family owned and operated company specializing in vegetables, some varieties unique to southern Italy. As you browse through the selection you’ll find varieties that are specific to the various regions of Italy and in some cases even towns themselves. For example “Zucchini Striato Pugliese” is unique to Puglia in southern Italy and the onion “Piatti di Bergamo” is from the northern Italian city region of Bergamo and the tomato "Licatese " is named for the town of Lica on the coast of Sicily. As you become more familiar with the names of the varieties, you realize you’re looking at the geographical history of Italian food itself. The people of Italy take great pride in their regional varieties of vegetables and are highly regarded and in many cases are granted protection to assure the genetic strain survives for future generations.
